Shots fired by GM Pres Mark Reuss:
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
Ladies and gentlemen, we are living in a golden era of performance cars. The new GT seems awesome, but I think we all would rather see a V8. Now, will it have a manual option?....
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:31 |
|
I think Ford got tired of Noble/Rossion using their engines so they built their own M12.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:32 |
|
It's a badass statement, but in reality he needs to step up and have a concept across the room from the GT if he wants to fight back.
Typical Chevy, late to the party (It's been this way since the 60's)
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:34 |
|
...And as soon as that happens, Ford has a nice flat-plane V8 they can stick in to one up them again.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:34 |
|
Totally. I made a comment on a reddit thread about the GT and how the drivetrain/layout reminded me of the Noble and XJ220.
And goddamn do I love the Nobles/Rossions. Chris Harris said the TTV8 M600 is as close to an F40 as you can get.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:35 |

The "rumors" have been confirmed. Can't wait to see it.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:35 |
|
Like I said elsewhere, if the TTV6 is what it takes to kick maximum ass while fitting within the rules of whatever race series Ford is targeting then I'd rather have the 6 than a V8 and no race program.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:36 |

Probably pushrods, too.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:37 |

One can hope, but I don't see it. I see the GT as an EcoBoost brand halo car; it shows what can be done with turbos. Putting a V8 in it would undermine the branding. It would look like a step backward for them. They're putting turbos in Mustangs and even the Raptor now. It's clear they're giving us "just the tip" of what eventually will be "all turbos, all the time" in a few years.
Plus it would look too much like they're copying GM.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:38 |

wasn't the XJ220 supposed to be a 12 cylinder or something and then went to the TT6 and everyone whined but the car kicked ass?
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:38 |
|
To be fair, the Z06 should already be pretty healthy competition for the GT.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:39 |

Hopefully.
If you don't understand the advantages of the LS engine, you need to do some reading.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:40 |

TT5.2V8 my friend.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:40 |
|
Not sure on the story, but that sounds familiar. Maybe the V12 was too heavy?
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:41 |
|
It might be, we'll have to see the actual capabilities of the GT tho
01/13/2015 at 14:41 |
|
It will also run on coal?
Grow up Reuss, you're not in high school anymore.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:41 |
|
Why not two V8s joined together?
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:41 |
|
Haha that would be awesome.
Who knows? With the way the horsepower war is going, it could be possible.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:42 |
|
Apart from saving a couple of inches at the cylinder head, what advantages?
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:43 |
|
They're gonna.....pickup.....the pace here soon!
GET IT?!?!?!?!
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:44 |
|
yea I feel like its going to be to light and aerodynamic that they 600HP won;t be that low (which sounds pretty messed up cuz its 600 HP)
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:45 |
|
Nah. It was too much cost for production.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:45 |
|
Yeah, curb weights will play a big role here. Ford was talking up the carbon fiber and aluminum parts of the GT (the CF wheels are awesome) so that could be the killer stat. The C7 Z06 weighs around 3600lbs, the old GT was 3,400ish. Lots of carbon could bring that down to around 3000lbs which would more than make up for the power discrepancy.
Should be fun to watch.
01/13/2015 at 14:45 |
|
But it needs two electric turbos to cancel the turbo lag.
And a hybrid system to send GM's V8 into oblivion.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:46 |
|
each with a retail price of Ł470,000 in 1992
lol
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:47 |
|
That might explain the El Camino-looking prototype.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:47 |
|
There better be some damn supercharging or twin-turbos on that V8.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:47 |
|
And they still lost money on each one. Kind of like the Veyron.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:47 |

The dude walking in front of the camera gets me every time lol. :D
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:49 |
|
Que?
No he's not in high school, but it's still a competition and a game of one-upmanship. I think most of us would prefer to have seen a V8 in the Ford GT also.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:50 |
|
Ha yeah, the whole thing is perfect.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:51 |
|
That sounds like a confirmation, that GM mid-engine is a go.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:51 |
|
engine is going to be lighter too!
It'll be very,very interesting. I can't wait.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:52 |
|
Well if it wasn't before the GT debuted, it will now. Luckily, they already have a badass, 650hp s/c'd V8 laying around....
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:56 |
|
Too damn good
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:56 |
|
Which engine? I assume the GM car will have the LT4 from the Z06. And while GM engines are light, the s/c will add weight, enough that it should be close to the V6TT. I don't think there will big a big difference in engine weight.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:57 |
|
Well, maybe it's time they let the Corvettes run larger restrictors to even things out again...
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:57 |
|
Stop stealing my Tweets/You forgot about the leaf springs.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:58 |
|
no, just to be a stinker make it 800 NA hp. Time to dust off the LS7 molds already.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:59 |
|
I meant from the old GT. You were talking about the old GT being around 3400, minus carbon effects bringing it to ~3000. Remember that the old GT had a 5.4L Modular V8 + supercharger.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 14:59 |
|
How much lag is this car really going to have? It's a large displacement 6 that is parallel twin turbo. That is about zero lag right there.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:01 |
|
Yes, lets just throw basically a NASCAR stock car engine into it. Doubtful. Especially since the LS7 doesn't meet emissions requirements.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:01 |
|
Ohhh
Yeah you're right. The V6 should be lighter than that for sure. I think 3,000lbs is a reasonable expectation.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:04 |
|
Meh, I don't have an issue with the Corvette leaf spring. It is its own thing and not comparable to a truck style leaf spring.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:04 |
|
I don't mind it either, but you know how people like to troll....
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:05 |
|
I'm going to make a bold prediction:
27-2800
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:08 |
|
Late to the party? The GT hasnt even showed up to the Corvette and Viper party in years.
Everyones shitting their pants over something that should of been around this whole time.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:09 |
|
To the mid/rear engine party.
The post is implying mid/rear engine Corvette.
01/13/2015 at 15:10 |
|
Yes, but the electric turbos will also add power. And quad-turbo sounds better than bi-turbo.
Add the optional hybrid system and you have the Ford TheFord.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:13 |
|
Smaller physical size, less complexity, less internal friction, more displacement, lower CG.
They both have advantages and disadvantages, both get the job done, just in different ways.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:15 |
|
OH LAWD
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:18 |
|
Yup. It'll be supercharged, have twice the displacement, and will also make 600 HP. #CoveringFire
01/13/2015 at 15:18 |
|
Sometimes less is more, and cleverness is better than brute force.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:19 |
|
Im hoping for a turbo LS too. I remember Jeuchter saying the main reason they didnt go with turbos on the Vette was because they wouldnt fit the way they wanted without moving the shock towers out. Which would of required changing many more things on the car. So mid engine brings out more possibilities.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:21 |
|
F yeah!
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:22 |
|
Let the Ford win a Le Mans or three first ;)
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:24 |
|
Considering this has pretty much every fancy doo-hickey the Z06 has, plus is supposed to be light weight and have pretty close to the same power numbers... If that's what helps you sleep at night.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:27 |
|
Well they burn a lot of oil when you get to the point of needing to achieve higher mpg's by adding technology, so they have that advantage.
01/13/2015 at 15:28 |
|
Nismo GT-R can go against the F12 with half the cylinders.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:30 |

It's the most perfectly looped gif I've ever seen.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:40 |
|
i didn't know where you were going with this, but I approve!
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:50 |
|
Mid engine, rear engine, 2 seater. All are invited if they choose to come.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 15:53 |
|
I'm saying he's talking about an engine behind the seats in a Corvette.
I'm saying they are late to the game because this is the 3rd time Ford has made a supercar like that...
I'm not sure where our wires are crossed. I keep saying mid/rear Corvette because you can say the current C7 is mid/front because of the positioning of the engine.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 16:00 |
|
This is amazing
![]() 01/13/2015 at 16:33 |
|
Still, that sounds better than a V6.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 16:38 |
|
But the GT-R engine WAAAYY less cool than the V12.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 16:45 |
|
wait, do people still believe in lag?
01/13/2015 at 16:49 |
|
I think it's pretty cool that it can deliver so much performance with only six cylinders. The rest of the car is just as impressive.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:06 |
|
I see both sides of it. V12's are awesome even before you consider the sound of it. RWD and naturally aspirated counts for a lot too. But the fact that the GT-R is 1/4 of the price of the 599 deserves respect too.
I'm a huge GT-R fan, especially since I can realistically see me owning one in the future.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:11 |
|
The Z06 has more power; we also don't know what the torque curve of the TTV6 looks like. The GT they showed also doesn't look like it has too fancy of a downforce package, whereas the Z06 has a pretty highly developed downforce package. The GT will most definitely have a higher top speed.
Also, the point of this post was near confirmation that GM is working on more of a direct competitor.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:16 |
|
"Sometimes"
Also, why not both? Isn't the new Z06 pretty much proof of concept of that? How about every Ferrari in the last 10 years?
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:16 |
|
I don't think Ford would have kept this under wraps so well if it wasn't meant to destroy all things.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:20 |
|
Yeah but, TOOOOOOORRRRRQUE.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:23 |

Said the man posting a gif of another man in a car powered by a high revving, high RPM, low torque Hayabusa engine.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:26 |
|
Fucking bold. That would be incredible. That would be something nearing Enzo Ferrari power-to-weight ratio.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:28 |
|
That's a good point, and they've got time to tweak it if need be, now that they know the Z06's capabilities. I'm sure they could tune a few more HP out of that V6 if they need to.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:32 |
|
* Supercharged K20Z4 from the Civic Type-R actually.
That's just the best Clarkson gif I could find. He's not a photogenic man...
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:34 |

I could never remember if that image was from the "base model" or the 500 they reviewed a few years later.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 17:37 |

I had to go back and watch the clip to be sure. It was worth it, thanks for the reminder.
![]() 01/13/2015 at 19:06 |
|
I won't doubt its performance, there are a lot of fast cars out there, but I'm talking coolness.
Engine for engine, Nissan's (and Ford's) TTV6 would be FAR to the left of Ferrari's V12 on the cool wall.
![]() 01/14/2015 at 09:36 |

I told you it was bold prediction time!
I really think 2800 though.
I mean, they said it even has carbon wheels right? Lightness is on their mind.
